Seeds distribution among initiative groups

One of the main project goals is organization of Initiative groups for self-help. Before establishing Initiative groups ICPO Jovid staff held meetings with local population, asked them about their problems, what business they want to deal to improve the livelihood.

There were 50 applications. People wanted to cultivate wheat, to process wool, to have own sewing shop and to sale fertilizer. Having examined all the applications, eight applications were selected, 5 of them were women groups (in each group 5 – 11 person) in Zafarabad region. At present time they deal with dairy products, processing milk, cultivation soy, sunflower, corn and watermelons.

Under this project Initiative groups were supported that were ready to input own funds to have own business, project purchased separators and stock seeds and distributed among the Initiative Groups. Special

trainings were conducted on separators and seeds use. In Mastchoh region project supported four Initiative groups two of them deal with alfalfa cultivation and two women groups with milk processing.

Each group has meetings twice per month with ICPO “Jovid” staff participation, to solve problems they have. Received yield farmers are to use only as seeds. Special registers were developed to make records concerning agronomic observations, and in future these notes will help to make farming more efficient.

One more initiative group’s objective is to conduct awareness campaigns among neighbors of Land reform on the spot, regarding the income received from crops cultivation or processing and new methods of cultivation.
