SAY YES TO OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY

Safety engineering is the activity of preventing accidents, assessing and reducing the risks associated with human error.

Before the start of the construction work of each channel, a two-level safety briefing was held at the construction site, namely: introductory and primary briefing.

Introductory and initial briefing with professional builders and involved workers (the public) was carried out by the project’s safety engineers. The briefing was carried out both individually and with a group of workers.

The purpose of the introductory briefing is to familiarize builders and workers with general knowledge of safety and sanitation.

During the introductory briefing, the following main points were discussed:

• main provisions of labor and safety legislation;
• internal regulations, behavior on the construction site, the meaning of light and sound signaling;
• the specifics of individual sections of the organization and the assessment of working conditions in them;
• characteristic accidents that can happen if safety precautions are not observed;
• clothing requirements;
• procedure for the use of personal protective equipment;
• rules of electrical safety during construction works;
• first aid techniques.

Primary briefing at the workplace was also carried out by an engineer. The primary briefing program usually included the following tasks:

• familiarization with the structure of building mechanisms;
• the procedure for preparing for work and checking the serviceability of equipment, tools and equipment before starting construction work;
• availability and methods of use of safety devices;
• requirements for maintaining order in the workplace;
• familiarization with safety precautions in the production of specific types of construction work and processes.

The primary briefing was carried out in order to test and improve the level of knowledge of the rules and instructions on labor protection individually or with a group of workers at the workplace. Moreover, the primary safety briefing was carried out for all employees, regardless of qualifications, education and work experience.
