Supporting the best business ideas among young people

The next stage of the sub-project, after a series of trainings to increase the knowledge of young people regarding innovative agriculture, was to involve target groups in the organization of income-generating activities. To receive a small grant, each interested participant who participated in the trainings must fill out an Application for a small grant. The main purpose of small grants is to support the best business ideas and increase self-employment opportunities for youth in targeted jamoats. After the trainings, the participants were handed out Applications for a small grant, as well as an A4 envelope. Before assignment, the sub-project staff consulted the beneficiaries on each item of the Application. From June 20th to June 30th, the beneficiaries were given time to study and complete grant Applications. Completed Applications were handed over to volunteers who were identified by the beneficiaries themselves in each target jamoat. In total, the staff of the sub-project received 26 applications for a small grant. Out of the total number of applications submitted, 9 were submitted by rural girls (35%).

To receive a small grant, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicant’s age must be between 15-35 years old

To select the best ideas for a small grant, a selection committee of 7 people was formed. Small grants were awarded on a competitive basis through a three-step selection process:

  2. Selection of the best business ideas (meeting all eligibility criteria)

Process In total, after a three-step selection process, 9 best business ideas were selected. 5 out of 9 selected applications for the final support of business ideas are girls, which is about 55.5%

The minimum size of supported business ideas is 7440 TJS (about 657 USD) and the maximum business is 17040 TJS (1505 USD).

In accordance with the grant allocation mechanism, the selected best business ideas were supported and the requested equipment and materials were procured and provided to the grant recipients. The recipients of the grant also contributed to the implementation of business ideas as part of the support of the sub-project (both in the form of complementary materials and tools, and in the form of labor). Of the 9 selected and implemented business ideas, all are individual businesses that enable young people to work and create independently.

Support for business ideas helps to improve the economic situation in the regions through the creation of new jobs, which will reduce the level of migration among young people and improve the living conditions of the project beneficiaries.
